RELASI KEKELUARGAAN DAN PROFESIONALISME: DILEMA PENGELOLAAN SUMBER DAYA MANUSIA PADA ORGANISASI BERBASIS KEKELUARGAAN
Abstract
This study is motivated by the dilemma of human resource management in family-based organizations, where emotional closeness, loyalty, and personal relationships may influence the implementation of professional standards. These challenges may be reflected in subjective decision-making, unclear boundaries between personal and organizational interests, inequitable performance appraisals, and potential nepotism in recruitment and promotion. The study is designed to address two central questions: how do family relationships influence professionalism in human resource management, and how can organizations balance family values with objective, fair, and accountable management principles? A qualitative approach employing a case study method is proposed. Data are planned to be collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, followed by thematic analysis to identify relational patterns, human resource management practices, and decision-making dynamics within the organization. As empirical data are not yet available, the findings cannot be presented as established research results. The study is expected to explore how family relationships can foster trust, solidarity, and loyalty while also identifying circumstances in which personal closeness may undermine objectivity, consistent rule enforcement, and organizational fairness. This research is expected to contribute to the development of human resource management practices by highlighting the importance of competency-based recruitment, transparent performance evaluation, clearly defined responsibilities, and accountable conflict-resolution mechanisms. These practices may help organizations maintain professional standards without sacrificing family values as a source of social capital. The study also seeks to offer a more nuanced understanding of family-based organizations by recognizing that the relationship between family ties and professionalism depends on organizational practices, governance arrangements, and the consistent application of management principles.
